Although men still only represent about 10% of plastic surgery patients nationally, we have experienced a significant increase in men seeking plastic surgery over the past few years. According to a recent article by ASAPS, here are some of the more common complaints that men express as they age, and how they can best be addressed.<\/p>\n

Even with diet and exercise, maintaining a fat free physique is a complaint we often hear in our practice. Fortunately, with body contouring procedures ranging from the non-surgical CoolSculpting procedure to several different types of liposuction, many of these problems can be addressed fairly easily. Just as with women, men who are close to their ideal weight but have isolated areas of fat that don\u2019t respond well to diet or exercise are the best candidates for liposuction or CoolSculpting<\/a>. Liposuction<\/a> was the number one requested procedure by men last year.<\/p>\n

Another complaint is the fat tends to become deposited around the chest area as men age causing the much despised \u201cman boob\u201d, which is clinically called gynecomastia. This can also be a problem for younger men, and is one that is fairly easily treated through either liposuction or removing the excess glandular tissue. This is one of the top five procedures for men and according to ASAPS statistics, and it affects anywhere from 40-60% of all men.<\/p>\n

As men age, they may also be bothered by wrinkles or sagging around the jowls or neckline. Botox<\/a>, facial fillers like Radiesse, Juvederm and Belotero are often requested by men who want to slow down the aging problem and address wrinkles. For those who have more sagging of the face, sometimes a MACS lift or blepharoplasty (eye-lift) or neck lift can address the problem. Fortunately, most plastic surgery procedures today are performed on an outpatient basis and have quicker recovery times than previously. This is particularly important to men who want to have something done to improve their appearance but don\u2019t want the downtime associated with some former surgical procedures.<\/p>\n
