The list includes those procedures that are surgical as well as non-surgical, in addition to some upcoming trends in plastic surgery.

In 2015 there was a big trend for women wanting butt augmentation with fat grafting, butt lifts and butt implants. These were the fastest growing procedures in the United States. The rate of those requesting butt lifts increased by 89% between 2000-2015. It seems likely that the trend for bigger bottoms stems from celebrities like Kim Kardashian, J.Lo and Nicki Minaj who are very amply endowed in the derriere department and proud to show off their curves.

Breast reduction has long been popular for women, who have found that having overly large breasts to be uncomfortable, often creating embarrassment, as well as back and shoulder pain. The ASPS report revealed that in 2015, more than 40 percent of breast reductions were performed on males. This is not surprising, particularly for younger men, who are also embarrassed by having too much breast tissue, also known as gynocomastia. This problem is often genetic in nature and breast reduction surgery can have a big impact on self-confidence.

The ASPS report stated that US plastic surgery rose 115% percent between 2000-2015. This is not surprising considering younger men and women now opt for non-invasive procedures, such as Botox to ward off future wrinkles, and many of the aging Baby Boomer generation tend to care about their looks long into their 60’s and beyond. The trend for males seeking plastic surgery also increases the overall number. According to the study, there were 15.9 million surgical and minimally invasive cosmetic procedures performed in 2015, a 2 percent increase from 2014.

Although butt lift and augmentation had the most growth, the top five surgical procedures were breast augmentation, liposuction, rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty, and tummy tuck. Breast lifts also realized an 89% increase from 2000-2015.

This is the first year since 2000 that facelifts were not in the top 5. I imagine this is due to the number of non-invasive procedures, such as Ultherapy, Exilis, SkinPen, and dermal fillers delaying the need for a facelift. For the minimally invasive procedures in 2015, Botox continued to top the list, following by dermal fillers (such as Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, Belotero, and Perlane), followed by chemical peels and laser hair removal.

The trend for those seeking to change or improve their appearance through plastic surgery does not seem to be waning. If you would like more information on any type of aesthetic plastic surgery, please do not hesitate to contact Dr. Ringler for a consultation.

Every year, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) develops a list, based on surveys from board certified plastic surgeons, of the most requested plastic surgery trends of the year.
