{"id":823,"date":"2011-04-23T05:58:19","date_gmt":"2011-04-23T05:58:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stevenringlermd.com\/?p=823"},"modified":"2024-01-25T14:34:53","modified_gmt":"2024-01-25T14:34:53","slug":"fat-transfer-breast-augmentation-does-not-interfere-with-mammograms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.stevenringlermd.com\/blog\/fat-transfer-breast-augmentation-does-not-interfere-with-mammograms\/","title":{"rendered":"Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation Does Not Interfere with Mammograms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Using a patient\u2019s own fat stores for breast lipomodeling will not result in issues when later undergoing a mammogram, a study by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plasticsurgery.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ASPS <\/a>found.<\/p>\n<p>The study, which was published in March, examined women who had undergone breast lipomodeling as an alternative to more traditional implant-based <a href=\"\/breast-procedures-grand-rapids\/breast-augmentation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">breast augmentation<\/a>. It found that 16 months after the procedure, more than half of the women displayed no abnormalities that would cause an issue on a mammogram. Of the women who did show any abnormalities, they were minor issues like scarring or small calcifications.<\/p>\n<p>The study also compared mammograms for women both before and after breast lipomodeling and found no significant differences in the mammogram results.<\/p>\n<p>Breast lipomodeling was originally introduced as a means for breast reconstruction following a mastectomy. In the cosmetic procedure, your plastic surgeon would use liposuction to remove excess fatty deposits from a donor site on your body, like the hips or thighs.
